What is the boiler grant?
The UK government, in a push towards energy efficiency and carbon reduction, offers grants for new, A-rated boilers. These grants are part of the Energy Company Obligation (ECO4) scheme and Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS). They aim to help lower-income households reduce heating costs and improve energy efficiency.
Benefits
Who can apply?
You may qualify for a free or subsidised boiler grant if you:
- Own or privately rent a property in the UK
- Have an old, inefficient boiler (typically over 10 years old)
- Receive one or more of the following benefits:
Pension Credit (Guarantee Credit or Savings Credit)
If you receive Pension Credit, you may qualify for a fully funded boiler replacement to help reduce your energy costs.
Universal Credit
Households on Universal Credit may be eligible for a free boiler grant to improve home heating efficiency.
Income Support
If you receive Income Support, you could qualify for a government-backed boiler upgrade at no cost.
Income-Based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
Those on income-based JSA may access a free boiler replacement under the ECO4 scheme.
Income-Related Employment & Support Allowance (ESA)
If you receive ESA, you might be eligible for a fully funded boiler grant.
Working Tax Credit
Households receiving Working Tax Credit could benefit from a free or subsidised boiler installation.
Child Tax Credit
If you receive Child Tax Credit, you may qualify for a free boiler upgrade to help lower energy bills.
Any Cardiovascular Issues
The scheme also takes into consideration any respiratory problems, limited mobility and immunosuppression.
Other Qualifying Factors
If your household income is less than £31,000 per year.
